Our Family

Tony and Joanne Kelly moved to Beckley in 1983 from a beautiful part of the world known as New Brunswick, Canada and I suppose you can say the rest is history. Tony, a local physician by day, has always been an avid craft beer drinker by night. Tony was thrilled by the idea of his daughter and son-in-law moving close to home, and even more excited a craft brewery would be spitting distance from his abode, he welcomed the idea to join the ranks in co-founding Weathered Ground Brewery.

Our Story

Sam and Aryn met each other at The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss.) After college, Sam moved to Colorado to do some soul searching and he discovered his future passion with craft beer. After a stint in Nashville, the couple moved to Charlotte where Aryn attended law school to become a licensed attorney. While antique shopping, they stumbled across a homebrew supply shop where Sam started to buy brewing ingredients and work part time. Eventually, they both found their way into working for a local brewery. As time went by and they welcomed their baby girl into their life, the couple realized they wanted to start their own family brewery back in Aryn’s home state of West Virginia. They found a farm in Cool Ridge that they both adored and immediately started constructing a barn-like building that would soon become home to Weathered Ground Brewery.
